Julia Lawing is a visual artist from Concord, NC working primarily in oils on canvas, wood and paper. Julia paints from personal observations of life, expressing her aesthetic and allegorical impressions in compositions of landscapes, structures and figures. Julia says about her work:

“I paint because it engages my senses, my mind, my soul, and stirs a passion in me unlike anything else. My aim is visual poetry that is simultaneously elusive and evocative. I want the viewer to look into the painting, not merely at it. My work is very personal yet very universal. While I base my paintings on places I have been, I want them to strike a chord with the viewer; I hope my impressions will spark their own memories and experiences. My work is very much about a sense of place, and the feelings, emotions, and sensations that go along with that.”

Participants will be invited to draw, paint and write about their own associations with landscapes and places that are important to them. Come view Julia’s completed works on First Friday, May 5, 2017.
