Beyond Ornament
Beyond Ornament
August 3-November 4, 2018
Beyond Ornament is a major survey exhibition highlighting North Carolina makers of studio jewelry. The artists selected for the exhibition produce objects that enhance and embellish the human body and also question what jewelry and ornament can be. They pursue projects extending beyond the body and present works that cannot be contained by the traditional jewelry case. Through sculptural installation, juxtapositions of scale, unconventional materials, and narrative content the artists in Beyond Ornament broaden the context for jewelry. They bridge cutting-edge concepts and traditional skills blurring the boundaries between art, craft, and design.

Ornament Performed
Thursday, October 11, 2018 | 6:00-8:00 PM
Come to the gallery, grab a bite and a drink before experiencing and participating in Chris Yon’s choreographic response to the Beyond Ornament exhibition. Follow dancers Taryn Griggs and Maurice Watson as they weave through the Greenhill Gallery, reframing the objects in the exhibition and each other through their dancing. Amid an aural landscape by pianist and composer Eric Schwartz and tuba player Geoffrey Edge, the ornaments are reimagined as part of a world inhabited by two people filling the empty spaces of the gallery with their own abstract, gestural, sculptural, patterned, designed movement. The audience will be guided around to view the objects and the dancers from different angles and become part of the architecture of the dance by following the lead of an ensemble comprised of student and professional dancers from the Greensboro dance community. $15/person + tax. Cash bar and hors-d'oeuvres. For tickets CLICK HERE.
