NC ARTIST HIGHLIGHTS - JAMES BARNHILL
Artists, who spend hours in solitary studio practice, are perhaps the most prepared among us to weather social distancing. Yet they are also “one-person businesses” who are dependent on reaching audiences, hoping that they not only collect their work but also respond to it. In our NC ARTIST HIGHLIGHTS, we will be reaching out to artists to invite us virtually into their studios as we learn more about their work, creative processes and projects.
James BarnHill primarily works in two studio spaces. One is a spacious warehouse with a lofty ceiling, which he shares alongside a wooden boat restoration crew at Lowell Boats in Greensboro. He also utilizes classrooms at A&T State University where he is an art professor and works weekly from the model during figurative sculpture classes at Art Alliance. His work has been exhibited at GreenHill in Facing South: Portraits by NC Artists (2008).
