ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS
Indelible | A Mark That Cannot Be Removed | Curated by Edie Carpenter | July 25, 2024 – November 2, 2024
Indelible presents four NC artists whose artwork reflects the role of inherited cultural practices in imagining stories that reflect individual investigations of identity. Paintings and installations by Aimee Garcia, polychrome clay sculptures by Abir Mohsen, expressive portraits by Isabel Lu, ink drawings and sculptures by Elliana Esquival give utterance to “marginalized voices.” These talented artists have distinct styles and wield multiple mediums to create works that embrace melancholy and offer the possibility of transcendence.

EDUCATION
GreenHill educational programs serve learners of all ages, with emphasis on skill-building. We are proud to have the capacity to provide a truly immersive visual art education experience. With access to GreenHill’s world-class art gallery, and ArtQuest at GreenHill studios for children, participants have the unique opportunity to view and make art in one setting, while developing STEAM-related skills.
Our education programs include
*MASTERPIECE FRIDAY, a program for preschoolers and their caregivers, presents many children with their very first art gallery experience. Children as young as 18 months participate in story time and a lollipop tour of the current exhibition, and art making in the studios inspired by the story time book.
*YOUNG ARTIST KOLLECTIVE (YAK) presents a similar opportunity for elementary age children. Along with direct art instruction, YAK members often get a behind the scenes look at how an art gallery operates, and the chance to work closely with peers with a similar interest in art.
*GROUP VISITS serve children as young as 3 and up. This 1.5 hour, full-circle experience brings children, teachers, and parents into our gallery to engage in interactive discussions of artwork in the current exhibition, into ArtQuest at GreenHill studios for a directed project that ties into the current exhibition, as well as self-directed hands-on exploration time.
*OPEN STUDIO is a time for children and caregivers to make the studio their own. Participants in OPEN STUDIO engage in self-directed art making with an art educator on hand to trouble shoot, help explore art materials, and even discuss their art work with them.
*FAMILY NIGHT, each Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 p.m., provides the same opportunity for self-directed exploration, free of charge. Local artists share their work and talk with FAMILY NIGHT visitors about their career as artists during our MEET AN ARTIST program on the last Wednesday of the month. FAMILY NIGHT is a core REGROUP AT GREENHILL program.
*SUMMER CAMPS provide week-long intensive experiences for rising kindergarten - 5th graders. Camp themes are selected based on the ability for campers to engage in projects that involve creative problem-solving, and learning new techniques and processes.
*ART IN LEBAUER PARK, a program for preK – 12 years and their caretakers, is off ered once per month March – August.
*GREENHILL POP-UP MARKET provides expert consultations from GreenHill staff and outside experts for emerging artists wishing to sell their art at offsite markets and festivals.
*ARTIST TALKS provide our audience the chance to learn about work in our exhibitions directly from the artists themselves.
AUDIENCES
Creating access to the visual arts for all - regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, or ability - is our top priority. GreenHill strives to be one of the most inclusive arts organizations in Greensboro and the state, as we utilize our central geographic location and varied hours to devise programming aimed at every age and walk of life.
We strategically choose partners to broaden our outreach to marginalized communities, including low-income families; bilingual or immigrant families; and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) families. 65% of GreenHill’s audience participate free of charge. At the same time, we continue to be a cherished tradition in many multi-generational Greensboro families.
The connection between viewer and artist is perhaps the most critical driver for audience development. GreenHill has sought to increase the number of artists of color we exhibit. 28% of artists in GreenHill’s most recent exhibitions were artists of color, an overall increase of 3% over FY22. In addition, the racial profile of our audience has increased from 48% BIPOC four years ago to 52% in our most recent year.
With a goal of sparking a life-long love of art, our education programs are integral to audience development. Significantly, 42% of our total audience is youth.
Efforts are focused on securing funding to provide greater access to the arts for those facing financial barriers. We work hand-in-hand with organizations such as Children and Families First NC – the umbrella organization for Head Start programs in our county - Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, Guilford County Schools’ Title I program, and organizations providing services for refugees and immigrants such as UNCG’s Center for New North Carolinians, to bridge the opportunity gap. During our past year, approximately 70% of students who visit us through field trips and workshops have been served free of charge.
Currently the organization is exploring potential capital needs around refurbishment of its facilities. Additionally, GreenHill is examining new partnership opportunities to expand events and exhibitions and elevate GreenHill’s profile across the Triad region and state.
