Edie Carpenter, Greenhill’s Director of Curatorial and Artistic Programs, is the juror for the exhibition of works related to bicycles or cycling on view at TAG through September 22. Awards will be announced at the opening on Friday, July 25 at 6:00 pm.
On serving as juror for the exhibition Carpenter states:
Art, if we pay attention, offers keys to understanding experience -- and the artists in the present exhibition expanded my thinking about bicycles. They speak to the multiple roles the most widely owned vehicle in the world, plays in our lives: as transportation, recreation, as a coveted collector’s object and an utter necessity. A bicycle can also remind us of time’s passing -- from the child striking out wavering towards independence to the taskmaster of efforts to maintain our youth.
Paintings, prints, drawings & photographs in this exhibition carry us along meandering byways with time to stop for a conversation en route—unmediated and face to face. The inhabited aspect of many representations of bicycles without their riders –recalls the bicycle’s human scale and that it is uniquely attuned to our breath and heart’s pump.
Artists submitted a maximum of three entries and many NC-based artists including Roy Nydorf, John Gall, Connie Logan, Josue Roman and Ted Efremoff are represented in the exhibition. For more information : www.tagart.org or read article from WFDD.
