Pop-Up Poetry Reading by Jeffery Beam | 5:30–6:15 PM
Join poet Jeffery Beam and artist Ippy Patterson for a theatrical reading of Beam’s poems from An Elizabethan Bestiary: Retold, a book of poems inspired by animals both real and imaginary. One of North Carolina’s most original poetic voices, Beam will often howl and growl during his reading of the Bestiary and his poetry will engage audiences both young and old. Published by North Carolina’s Horse & Buggy Press, An Elizabethan Bestiary: Retold has won numerous awards and projections of Patterson’s drawings for the book will be on view during the reading.

Live music by Abigail Dowd will take place from 6:30-7:30 PM. Abigail Dowd is a singer/songwriter with a bluesy voice that has been described as “a rare thing that is at once strong and generous in its vulnerability." She blends her classical guitar style with the edgy bass and percussion of Jason Duff.
