The Board of Directors of Green Hill Center for North Carolina Art proudly announced William Baites as the newly appointed Executive Director for Green Hill Center. A welcome reception was held on October 21, 2005 in the gallery. Bill is a native of Greensboro and a former graduate of the School of Music at UNC-Greensboro. He had worked as an executive in the field of arts management for over twenty years at the time of his appointment as Executive Director. He had also served as a respected leader in the arts on a national level with experience including: Director of the Performing Arts Series at Emory University in Atlanta; Managing Director, Rialto Center for the Performing Arts, Atlanta; Cultural Affairs Manager, Department of Tourism and Cultural Development: City of Miami Beach.
In October, Editha (Edie) Carpenter was hired as curator. Edie had over ten years of curatorial experience. Most recently, she held the post of Director at the Zabriskie Gallery in Paris and as an associate in a gallery specialized in non-occidental art where she organized over forty exhibits of contemporary artists. Edie is very familiar with Greensboro and Green Hill Center through her late father, Bert Carpenter, who maintained a long association with the visual arts in the state. She is also familiar with many artists who are based in North Carolina and maintains close connections with artists who have taught or visited here such as Toshiko Takaezu who taught for many years at Penland.
